I am let down by Tove Ditlevsen's poems
I have huge admiration for her prose so I was utterly disappointed with the collection when I picked up her poetry. Is it a translation issue? Any native speakers here who can shed light on the translation? It felt strangely facile and surface-level?
Would like to hear if anyone hates the poetry written by their favourite authors lol. I have the same gripe with Robert Walser's poetry as well.
I don't know if I am unfairly criticizing the translators. Not that I except all writers to be congruently talented in all forms of writing they choose, but it is jarring to see practioners of complex, moving prose being unable to execute the same to a passable degree in poetry.
