On xenophobia in East Germany

Traveled around Brandenburg and Sachsen when I used to live in Germany, it was close to my Berlin base. I especially enjoyed the Sächsische Schweiz and found it to be very much like all the positive stereotypes we have about Germany. Polite, well-mannered locals, extremely clean towns, beautiful landscapes with nice hiking and all those typical German style restaurants.

I almost never made it to Sachen, because multiple German colleagues warned me about going there and I almost followed their advice. They said it can be dangerous for foreigners. In the end I found it to be much safer and welcoming than Berlin, where I've got harassed multiple times, including two incidents that were clearly xenophobic.

Not sure what the moral of the story is, maybe just a reminder to not pay too much attention to stereotypes.
