Two workers were rescued alive from a tunnel at Nepal’s Trishuli 3A Hydropower Project on Thursday, nine days after catastrophic flooding trapped workers underground. 🚨

The Associated Press reported that the search continued after a survivor said others might still be alive inside the tunnel system. The number of people remaining inside and their condition were not confirmed. ⛑️

AP said about 115 people were believed trapped at the Trishuli 3A project and roughly 500 in hydropower tunnels nationwide, underscoring that the emergency extended beyond one site.

The two rescues provide evidence of survivability after nine days, but rescuers still faced the challenge of reaching and accounting for those believed trapped. Flooding in underground hydropower works can block access and complicate evacuation. 🌊
