People should stop with historic revisionism when it comes to Xbox one launch
Lately ever since Xbox brought disc to digital program (a huge W imo) people have started talking about Xbox one E3 announcement and how this was their plan and that gamers (tm) were dumb for hating on xbox because if they had succeeded we would have peace, harmony and digital game rights.
People forget that main hatred towards Xbox one wasn't TV TV TV, it wasn't lack of backwards compatibility at the time and it wasn't lack of games (PS4 also had issues with lack of games on start)
It was forced kinect inclusion which severely raised the pricetag for the console without options of not buying it and it was the fact that XBOX ONE HAD TO BE CONNECTED ONLINE TO BE USED.
Every 24 hours. Xbox One console would had to be connected online for "reasons" and if the system stayed off the grid after 24 hours since last time being connected. It would become a paperweight with all of your games digital or physical being unable to play until you reconnect. And the discs themselves were also not great since they would be locked to your account with very limited ways of reselling them thus killing used games market (modern design you can still buy used games and its just that the old owner loses their digital license they got from disc with zero limitations)
People should never forget that Xbox literally attempted to make your games always online and they 100% deserved getting bullied into going back. Sure this did ruin Xbox one and xbox series generations but most of the damage was due to Phil Spencer's policy on getting rid of all reasons to own an Xbox and spending all the money on reckless acquisitions instead of funding new games in IPs they already own.
Having games require internet for zero good reason is anti consumer and is worse than being digital only and the "everyone has internet" excuse is moot because again. Why singleplayer games should require internet?
People shouldn't forget why Xbox got bullied. They were bullied for a reason and a very good one. I am saying this as an Xbox fan myself.
