What are some web dev practices you can think of that were pushed so hard at conferences and books but never made it to the real world?
After doing web dev for over 15 years.
I remember attending a conference in Brooklyn NY on accessibility. Microformats, screen reader attributes. The speaker advocating the Tantek Çelik approaches, meanwhile they get a book deal and money for speaking passionately on these things.
I remember thinking, "Yes! These things matter, but my clients, and my boss don't give a shit about these things".
Remember the vcard HTML crazy attributes?
Looking back on it, that conference speech that I thought was important, none of it was ever used, and it doesn't even matter now. It was a short lived, "this is how we should work" experience.
What are things now, you see going in this direction with web development that is short-lived but raking it in with the conferences and money?
