Took a bird to the head at 70mph this morning
I was riding on the highway at a speed of about 70 mph and checked my shoulder to switch lanes. In the instant I turned my head, something struck me on the side of my helmet.
No idea what struck me. It made a thud that slammed my teeth together and "wobbled me" a little. Eithout a helmet I would for sure have been KO'd or knocked off the bike . I remained stable and nothing seemed out of place, so assumed that it was just something kicked up.
Tried to figure out what hit me but I couldn't tell. I was looking around bewildered hoping the cars near me would try to communicate what happened but nobody seemed to be regarding the situation at all.
Hours later my wife tells me, “Uh…there’s a dead bird stuck in your bike.”
I can't say for sure if that bird is what hit me, or how it would end up wedged into my bike after hitting me in the head. Maybe there was a flock of birds and one hit my bike and one hit my head.
But still. Pretty crazy experience.
