Beginner-friendly does not mean zero learning curve

I think I’m starting to understand what “beginner-friendly” actually means with newer 3D printers.
It does not mean you can ignore everything and treat the machine like a paper printer. It just means the annoying parts that used to stop beginners immediately are less painful than they were on older machines.
I’ve been using the SparkX i7 recently, and compared with the older Ender-style printer I was used to, the first few prints felt much easier to get going. Setup was not stressful, the first layer did not turn into a whole evening of adjusting things, and I did not feel like I had to watch every single movement before trusting the print.
That part really does make it feel more approachable. Auto leveling, the guided setup, and the more automatic workflow remove a lot of the early frustration. I can see why someone new to 3D printing would have a much better first experience with this kind of machine than with an older manual setup.
But I also would not say it removes the learning curve completely. You still need to understand how filament loads, how to keep the plate clean, what a purge tower does, why color changes create waste, and how slicer profiles affect the final print. The CFS Lite makes multicolor easier to try, but it also adds its own things to think about, like tube routing, filament placement, and purge settings.
That has probably been the biggest surprise for me. The printer makes it easier to start, but it does not remove the need to learn why things work. If anything, it lets you get to the interesting problems faster instead of spending all your energy just trying to make the first layer stick.
So far, I’d describe it as beginner-friendly in a good way, but not completely hands-off. It feels like a machine that helps you get printing quickly, while still giving you enough room to learn settings, materials, and multicolor workflow as you go.
For people who started 3D printing on the SparkX i7 or another newer automated printer, what was the first thing you still had to learn the hard way? For older users, what do you think new people still need to understand even with all the automation?
