Botham is an English cricket commentator, member of the House of Lords, a former cricketer who has been chairman of Durham County Cricket Club since 2017 and charity fundraiser. Hailed as one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of the game, he represented England in both Test and One-Day International cricket. He was a part of the English squads which finished as runners-up at the 1979 Cricket World Cup and as runners-up at the 1992 Cricket World Cup .
Botham's Test career spanned 16 seasons and he played in 102 matches. Botham was the 21st player to achieve the "double" of 1,000 runs and 100 wickets in Test cricket and he went on to score 5,200 runs and take 383 wickets.
From August 21, 1986, to November 12, 1988, he held the world record for the greatest number of Test wickets – 373 wickets in 94 matches - before being overtaken by Richard Hadlee.
