I just read a thread on another platform regarding socialism / communism / universal basic income (I couldn't really tell) discussing the upside if no one has to work to survive financially. It said "Imagine the art and music that humans would produce".
Ok, I'll play along. I imagine it would go like this: There would be a minor increase in quantity and a massive decrease in quality. On balance, society wouldn't notice, appreciate or benefit from the new creations because...
Art and music work because of a combination of undeniable talent and unstoppable passion. If you have undeniable talent you can already make it your career. If you have unstoppable passion you already quit your job to do what you love. I have low expectations from the person that unwillingly showed up to a job because they didn't have enough of either.
To be fair I'm only writing this half-heartedly, because I don't care what people spend their life doing as long as they don't expect me to fund it. Sadly, that same thread made it clear that they do expect me to fund it and that won't happen easily.
