Should I just buy a motorcycle now or keep waiting?
Tl;dr - Curious what you guys did when you got your first bike, did you wait for an optimal time or full sent it?
I've been thinking about getting a motorcycle for a while now but shit kept coming up and delayed me but now I am in a position to get a bike (almost) and finally decided to sign up for the MSF and will take it in a month and a half.
Im planning on getting a Ninja 650 as my first bike as lots of people say that's a good first bike, and I see a brand new one selling for 7k at a place near me...
The thing is, I dont have my license yet, and while I have ridden a motorcycle before, it was a small dirt bike when I was a kid, and it was a friends so it's not really the same, I have pretty much no experience riding other then that and my dad showing me how to ride one one time.
Plus, I also have about 8k left on my student loans, which I will have paid off within 8-12 months if I can keep up my current payment velocity.
I know the smart thing is to take the course to learn the basics and gain experience, then get my license, then finally next spring once my student loans are paid off (or mostly), buy a bike... but Im so tired of waiting... I was gonna get a bike when I was 23 right out of college, but I ended up needing to buy a new car (that's paid off btw) then medical stuff came up at 24-25 which drained my savings (not fully recovered from it but recovered enough)
Im 26 now and by next spring, I'll be 27 by the time I have a motorcycle if I do the "optimal" route (IE, MSF course pay student loans off, then save for a few months and buy a bike next spring) or (and I can afford it but it'd slow my student loans payments) I buy the bike now learn to ride, take the MSF in a month and a half and have a bike already that I can enjoy for a month or 2 before fall/winter...
Im just tired of waiting but I guess I've waited this long whats another year 😭... idk what wouls you do in my position? Or what have you done in similar situations? #motorcycles source
