I'm at my final point at my job due to my disability. These jobs don't care about you.
Context: This is a place that is open 7 days a week. Not a typical 9 - 5.
Backstory: I have a chronic disability that flares up occasionally. Some flares are mild while others are so bad that I double over in pain (don't worry, I see my PCP for this). I tell them this at the interview. They still hired me. When they offered me a job, it was completely different position and a different pay range. Way lower than what they said they could give me,.too. But I needed to get out of my last job that was abusive and toxic. So I took it. But things just got progressively worse.
I applied for accommodations and my doctor even told them the accommodations I needed. They decided to give me 1 point a month. So if I left early or called in, it would be excused. The other points (unless covered by sick time) would not be excused. But wtf is 1 day/month gonna do??? The sick time took a long time to accure, too.
Then, because of me working 40 hours a week (5 days), it caused me to flare up more often. Causing me to need to call in more than 1 day a month (who could've seen that coming!? /s). I then proposed that I could go down to 32 hours a week. My managers were all for it. HR said they'd approve it. Fast forward to last week, my managers said:
"We can't give you 32 hours a week because you're inconsistent. You need to be consistent."
😐 so I can't have proper accommodations or have flexible hours? Because I was inconsistent... because of the disability I told you about? That you wouldn't give me proper accommodations for? OK bro. Fuck y'all!
To top it off, to get the points to fall off - you gotta go 6 months without being late or having any call offs (unless you have sick time to cover it). OK. No. I officially am in the "idgaf" stage about this job.
If I happen to get a flare up soon and have to call in, that's that. Idc. My health ALWAYS comes first!! If I'm running late: oh fucking well!! They constantly said how all this was due to staffing. Ok, but if/when I'm fired, you're REALLY gonna be short staffed. 🤣
Anyway, I'm waiting to hear back from a manager to schedule my second interview at a really nice place. I also have savings so I'll be ok if I were to be let go before I get a new one. I also live with my parents, so I don't have rent to pay which helps a lot. I also would be able to focus on my last semester of college.
These managers and companies do NOT give a fuck about you. Remember that. Always prioritize your health and well being over these jobs. Period! source
