🇿🇼 Zimbabwe has announced separate restitution or purchase processes for 67 farms protected by foreign-investment agreements, 840 properties it says were acquired from Black Zimbabwean owners in error, and 409 white farmers who remained on farms alongside resettled beneficiaries.
The government says BIPPA-protected farms that were designated for compulsory acquisition but remained unoccupied will be returned to investors. Properties wrongly acquired from Black owners are to be restored, while the 409 white farmers will be allowed to buy the farms or portions they occupy.
The measures do not formally reverse the Fast Track Land Reform Programme launched after 2000. They distinguish claims by legal basis while the government maintains that the wider redistribution of land is irreversible. ⚖️
The policy comes alongside efforts to issue title deeds to resettled farmers, improve tenure security and rebuild investor confidence. Zimbabwe is also pursuing debt relief and renewed access to international finance, while its separate $3.5bn compensation framework for former commercial farmers remains constrained by funding. 🌾
