I have been intrigued by this idea lately. I have recently read Shardik and Maia by Richard Adams, and I think there’s an argument to be made that Santil-kè-Erketlis is a main character in both, despite having no lines, no scenes. People only talk about him. It’s quite effective, in my opinion. His actions are some of the driving forces in those books. Are there other works like that? Is he the main character? Can someone be a main character if they’re never directly in a a scene? For me, it’s an interesting question. #entertainment source
