Tonight, for the first time, I tried to record myself singing. I had the original song playing in my ear (Peter Gabriel Washing of the Water) so all I heard on playback was my voice. It's harder than I thought to control the volume, syllables and sustains. It will take some practice to sound right a cappella before I try to dub myself into the song. New respect for singers.

forgot to add, wow, the Washing of the Water is super challenging. Hope to hear you give it a shot, what happens if you sing and self accompany with piano?

once i was challenged to do song on open mic night. i picked this one https://tangled.com/c/b8ad3bae3bclyjbDHNsH4noUhzUtVoFyfkCH2c317
i sang it hundreds of times, trying to get it right. breakthrough was when, frustrated, i belted it out as loud as i could. somehow that snapped something, broke open the box. it came free and easy afterwards... (until i stepped on stage 😬)

I always hated the sound of my own voice when I heard it back on a recording. It took me forever to get used to hearing it.

Yeah that part is rough, but GarageBand has a bunch of mysterious dials for that it seems
