What can I expect on my first day / week as a junior developer?
I’m starting my first developer job next week after around 6 months of self study and a boot camp.
I’ve just accepted a job offer at a medium sized company that dose some very exciting work, honestly it’s so much more than I expected my first position could possibly be.
I’m somehow worried I scammed them and they think I’m more skilled than I actually am, but in reality they asked me increasingly difficult technical questions to the point I had to say I didn’t know so they should know my skill level. Furthermore the projects they saw on my portfolio were ones I created independent of any tutorial, I don’t think tutorials even exist for what I made.
I guess I’m just afraid they’ll expect me to know things I’m unfamiliar with or that I’ll have forgotten a lot by the time I start. I mean when I step away from my own project for a week and come back to it it’s almost like looking at foreign code and I need to read my documentation to relearn it.
Don’t get me wrong I’m super excited, absolutely buzzing and can’t wait to start but I’m just curious what I can expect and what I can do to prepare. Hindsight is always 2020 so if anyone has any from their first day or week they could give me I’d be grateful.
