I am African from Nigeria and I thought my family surname was a but weird not a traditional one. I did more research and I found out that my ancestors were the few slaves that made it back to Africa particularly Lagos and that’s why the surname is so widespread across various ethnic group and area.
Which made me feel weird and hurt in a way, I knew slavery happened but I always thought since I was African my ancestors were protected from it and I was wrong.
So as anyone investigated their ancestral background just to find things like this?
