Just read The Picture of Dorian Gray
I think this has got to be my favourite book now. It is filled with the most detailled and atmospherical desciptions, characters that fully come to live and such such witty and funny dialogue. The dramatical and the artistic come together for this great story that is the live of our dear Dorian. It is such an intriguin story too. A lot of psychological turmoil and the horror of the realisation of how the world can be.
"Genius lasts longer than Beauty. That accounts for the fact that we all take such pains to over-educate ourselves. In the wild struggle for existence, we want to have something that endures, and so we fill our minds with rubbish and facts, in the silly hope of keeping our place."
A hostess introducing her guests: “She either explains them entirely away, or tells one everything about them except what one wants to know.”
I'm gonna end up rereading this one loads for sure, but now I'm off to read his plays, there mus be some of Oscar's genius in those too I gather.
Also: If anyone has any reccs that have a similar vibe, same type of atmosphere, gothic vibes, wittyness, same themes. Do let me know I'd love to read it
