I’ve found a building permit for my address, in my name , with a company I don’t recognize, for a project I never got a quote for. Is this some kind of scam?
I was scheduling an inspection for a legitimate project, then the inspector asked me about my other permit. I asked what he was talking about. He says there’s a permit for electric renovation to connect a sump pump, submitted by a company called Neptune Plumbing.
1. I don’t have a sump pump. I’ve never gotten a quote for one, either
2. I’ve never once contacted any company called Neptune Plumbing.
I thought this must be a permit that the old owners pulled. I haven’t lived here that long. But the inspector said no, the permit has my name on it.
I don’t see how it could be a mistake, since the permit has both my name and address. The inspector closed the permit in question, but now I’m a little uneasy. What motivation would someone have for pulling a fake permit? Is there some sort of scam that involves this?
