Are all 8TB hard drives the same size? Hello, I am building a small NAS device. I am about to purchase a handful of 8TB drives and create a ZFS (RAIDZ) pool with them. Eventually, a year or three from now, one of the drives will fail. When that happens, I'll purchase and install a replacement. Can I be sure that the replacement drive will be the same exact size? Is 8TB always 8TB? I understand that 8TB = 8000000000000 bytes and 8 TiB=8796093022208 bytes. Yes, some vendors might market an 8TB drive as an 8TiB drive. That sucks. Still, if I assume that *8TiB means 8TB*, I can rely on the '8TB' figure. ...Or can I not? Short of buying only that particular make and model again, what can I do?
