Aristotle's Concept of Tragedy
I'm not very knowledgeable, but I was just curious about how Aristotle's concept of goodness relates to his idea of tragedy.
I was under the impression that Aristotle often tries to make his characters moderate, and not excessively good or bad, but I also thought that the point of Catharsis and Aristotle's tragedies was to evoke a strong feeling in the viewer. Aren't these two concepts in opposition to one another? Because if Aristotle's goal was to evoke as strong a feeling in the viewer as possible he would've made the victim of the plot as excessively good as possible to make the viewer feel more pity? Doesn't having moderate characters reduce the effect of catharsis?
