Horror in Space
I always think this is one of the lowest approaches to #horror sequels, where they take the main villain or monster and cobble together some ridiculous story in space. I don't mean sci-fi horror, like Event Horizon or Aliens. Normal Earth-bound stories that get put into orbit. Movie like:
Jason X
Ok, this is one exception to the crappy-movie-in-space theme. Jason X is my favorite Friday the 13th movie, where he is cryogenically frozen by mistake, and then thawed out in the future. The tagline alone is worth watching the movie (“Evil gets an upgrade”). Its campy, hilarious and actually filled with all the great violence that makes this a fab franchise.
Hellraiser 4: Bloodline
They kind of have a reasonable story here, where a descendant of the man who made the puzzle box is trying to finally destroy Pinhead by opening the box on a space station. They focus a lot more on the backstory of the box and add in a random new demon character just for kicks.
Leprechaun in space
I haven't actually seen this one but who can resist such a story! Like Hellraiser, this is the fourth movie in the series and I can't say much more about it. Apparently the Leprechaun is on a space craft, cavorting with aliens and killing everyone in sight.
Amityville in space
I'm guessing anyone can get a license to use the Amityville name in a movie without much investment because this is a very low-budget (aka handmade) movie. Possibly one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Remember the ending of the original Amityville movie, where the house kind of collapses in on itself Well, this movie follows that idea where the entire house went through a wormhole and is now just floating around in space.
What do you think about this type of story spin-off? Love it or hate it? Did I miss any notable ones? Tips for all comments if you can find other horror-in-space examples!
