Update: you all called it, the PLA melted. Here's my digital gear knob V2, reprinted in ABS
A while ago I posted my TicWatch Pro 3 gear knob printed in PLA and asked you to bet on how long it would survive inside a car. A lot of you were right, and a lot of you were very specific about why. So I felt I owed you this update.
It's now reprinted in ABS, and here's what changed since then, mostly thanks to your feedback:
\- ABS shell, printed in an enclosed printer to handle car interior heat
\- Improved fit around the screen so it stays put while shifting
\- Black silicone mounting instead of relying on friction alone
\- Watch still runs straight off the car's 12V through a step-down converter, no battery
\- Covering the screen with your palm turns it off, so you don't accidentally hit the media controls mid-shift
\- Integrated with the dashboard tablet running RealDash
Thanks to everyone who roasted the PLA choice. You were right, and the knob is better for it.
