AAA has become worthless

Locked my keys in the car. It’s 1040PM in a city of 300,000. I’m 45 miles from home. Hey, no problem, I’ve got AAA. Submit my service request online.

10 minutes after submission, I get a text that includes “Your lockout service has been scheduled” and provides a link for “your estimated time of arrival” but it is too soon for an estimate just yet.

Cool.

But then a full half hour later: “Due to high volume in your area, we’re running behind. Your request is in queue and we’ll update you soon with a more precise ETA”.

Well, that’s not ideal.

After another half hour I get the exact same message. “high volume....running behind”. We are now 1:15 into the wait.

I text the AI agent asking how long the queue is, how many trucks are working, but knowing it probably can’t answer. And it replies as much because “customer service” AI is worthless.

Then, right on schedule after yet another 30 minutes I get the same canned update.

This is bullshit.

I called the AAA phone number and pushed buttons until I got a real person.

So it turned out there were NO trucks working, NO ONE is available to take my service call. There’s no “queue” being worked through, no “running behind”. Just me and maybe a few others on indefinite hold. My request was never “scheduled”. I placed a call for help from a cold downtown sidewalk, with a service that I PREPAID FOR, and NO ONE IS COMING. WTF am I getting for my $200 annual family membership, exactly?

I probably would have been getting reliable 30 minute assurances while sitting on a curb without my coat, outside of closed businesses, until someone woke up for the day and felt like coming out after breakfast, apparently. Or maybe never.

Been a customer for over 25 years, but I will not be renewing, and I will be telling everyone I know.

What roads to hit on this scenic desert/coastal california trip?

Hi all

This is the general route I'd like to take, as I wanna drive the American southwest. The loop is clockwise starting and ending in SLC. I plan to stop here and there, but Im not planning on spending days in one spot, as I love to drive and want as much scenery on the road as possible (also got limited PTO to use lol hoping for 10-14 days).

Are there any must hit roads on this trip? Obviously Im gonna hit up monument valley, and California SR-1, but if anyone knows any scenic or fun to drive roads, itd be much appreciated

Thanks!
