The Real Cost of the "Always On" Hustle: My Journey to Rediscovering What Matters ...and Why I’m Choosing Presence Over Performance.
For the past few years, I’ve been navigating the world of online earning—through platforms like Facebook’s Performance Bonus and other social media streams. Like many, I was drawn to the potential of creating content and earning an income from my efforts. But after diving in, I've come to a stark and important realization.
The Cold Truth: To truly "succeed" on these platforms, it often feels like you need to be "on" 24/7. It demands constant content creation and relentless engagement. Whether it’s mastering algorithms or simply staying visible in a live feed, and sometimes even resorting to tactics that feel unhealthy or manipulative just to get seen. And honestly? As a 56-year-old wife, mother to two incredible adult sons (28 and 32), and a proud grandmother to a beautiful 5-month-old girl, I'm simply not prepared to live that way. Why I'm Choosing a Different Path: It's Unhealthy: The pressure to constantly perform, chase trends, and maintain a demanding online presence takes a toll on mental and physical health. It blurs the lines between work and life, making true rest and disconnection almost impossible. It Can Feel Unfair: The system often rewards sheer volume, algorithmic hacks, or simply being "first" in a live feed over genuine connection or quality content. It can feel like a constant battle against an invisible force or a never-ending stream, rather than a creative pursuit. I Have a Life to Live: Beyond the screen, there's a world that needs my attention. I have a home to tend, a rhythm of self-care and movement to honor, I enjoy creating whether it be crocheting, photographing even digital creative outlets, and most importantly, my loved ones – my husband, my sons, my daughter-in-law, and especially my precious granddaughter – deserve my presence and warmth. These aren't distractions; they are the vibrant fabric of my life. So if I’m not always “on,” please know it’s because I’m deeply present elsewhere. My "Nothing" is Everything: I may not have the latest gadgets, a luxury car, or a massive bank account. This quieter path wasn’t born only of my own decisions—some were twisted by manipulation, dressed up as opportunity. But I’ve turned that distortion into clarity, and now I walk with eyes wide open. But here's what I do have: a roof over my head, food on my table, my health and the invaluable warmth of love from my closest family. In what some might call “nothing,” I find everything. And that, to me, is enough.
Thank you for reading this far, for sitting with my words, and for honoring the quiet truths tucked between them. To all my #tanglers —those who weave, unravel, and reweave meaning alongside me—I wish you a soft night, a clear breath, and a moment of stillness. Goodnight. See you when I see you. 🌙🕊️🪷🧶✨🌾
