But the most notable 1997: ESCAPE from NEW YORK is Kurt Russell's extraordinary interpretation of the antihero, "Snake" Plissken, with his rebellious appearance, his attitude and voice fed up with the world and the authorities of the North American government, Russell manages to give us a memorable performance that is undoubtedly one of the strongest points of the film, the film had a stellar supporting cast for the time, Lee Van Cleef (Hawk), Ernest Borgnine (Cabbie), Harry Dean Stanton (Harold "brain" Hellman ), Donald Pleasence (The President), and Isaac Hayes (Duke).

Manhattan has been locked behind enormous walls, where a mixture of total Mad Max-type anarchy and a dictatorship led by the Duke (Isaac Hayes) who controls the largest gang inside the prison prevails!!! Snake must fight and use all his cunning in this jungle without rules to rescue the president before his neck is blown off. The premise of ESCAPE from NEW YORK at the time was a novelty, today replicated in several other films and television series, but without a doubt in 1981 it was a unique and captivating cinematographic experience. The setting and special effects of the film for the time delivered, creating a menacing vision with an atmosphere of a terrifying and dark future. The music was composed by Carpenter himself, it adds an ironic tone to the film.
