The Lotus and the Star
From the delta’s mouth to the highland’s steep,
Where the Dragon dreams while the censors sleep,
Rises a bloom, a Lotus pure and white,
Unstained by the mud, yet choked of the light.
The soil is rich, the harvest is green, But a heavy Hand rules what can be seen.
The Red Cloth flies with a Yellow Star bright,
A symbol of Union, a cloak for the night.
For the bloggers who typed, the reporters who dared,
To whisper the truth that the Censor cage with 117 unwritten articles that caged the free.
The Keepers of Green, who warned of the tide,
Now sit in the cold, their sentences long,
Convicted of tax for doing no wrong.
They traded the dark smoke for the sun’s clean ray,
And for this vision, their freedom they pay.
Hark to the hills where the Montagnard dwell,
Their ancient prayer silenced by the harsh spell.
When one sought asylum beyond the tall reeds,
The long arm of power followed his deeds.
The whole world must watch, past the curtain of Bamboo, As freedom is stolen from you and and humanity is thrashed.
