Jordan Clarkson is widely being recognized as the first player of Filipino descent to win an NBA championship, after the New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 94–90 in Game 5 of the 2026 NBA Finals to clinch the title.
Clarkson played a reserve role for New York during the championship run and became the first NBA champion with Filipino heritage. Before the Finals, it was already guaranteed that a player of Filipino descent would win the title because Clarkson faced fellow Filipino-American rookie Dylan Harper.
A notable distinction: Clarkson is the first NBA champion of Filipino descent.
He is also the first active NBA player to represent the Philippines internationally and then win an NBA title.
For Filipino basketball fans, it's a historic milestone and a major moment for Philippine representation in the NBA. 🇵🇭🏆
