August 12 is National Vinyl Record Day in the United States.

Step back in time to enjoy the classic sound of vinyl. This day was created in 2004 to celebrate the historic medium of vinyl records which have been used for decades for music lovers everywhere. Not only does this day pay homage to its roots but it also helps bring attention to the current resurgence of interest in listening to vinyl records!

Ways to Celebrate National Vinyl Record Day

1. Listen to your favorite vinyl record. Pull out that record you’ve been meaning to play. Note the artwork and liner notes.

2. Host a vinyl party. Invite your friends over for a night of music listening. Take turns to choose records and learn about each other’s favorites.

3. Join or host a vinyl swap meet. Look around your town for such an event or host one yourself! Exchange records with your friends or find new ones from strangers.

4. Go record shopping. Browse some local record stores and flip through their collection of old and new releases. Even if you don’t buy, enjoy looking through their selection.

5. Create a themed playlist. Theme your playlist by decade, genre, artist or any other criteria, then reflect on why you chose those particular songs.
