What would you miss tomorrow that you barely noticed today?

Yesterday reminded me how easy it is to miss just how good an ordinary day can be.

I spent part of the afternoon with my youngest grandson. Later, I was at a sporting event with family and a friend. Then I came home, picked up two of my grandsons, and brought them home for a sleepover.

Nothing extraordinary happened.

But somewhere in the middle of it all, gratitude hit me.

I realized how fortunate I am to have family close enough that these moments can happen. And it made me wonder how many good things in life fall through the cracks simply because we are not present enough to recognize them while they are happening.

We tend to notice value when something changes.

You appreciate your knees when they hurt. Sleep when it becomes difficult. A conversation with your parents when those conversations become fewer. The friend who always answers when one day they cannot.

The strange thing about ordinary life is that consistency can make something valuable feel common.

What keeps showing up becomes expected.

And what becomes expected often stops being appreciated.

So today, pay attention.

Look around at the people, abilities, routines, and little moments that continue to show up for you. Do not wait for their absence to teach you their value.

Presence gives you the opportunity to experience gratitude now instead of someday looking backward wishing you had.
