"Not being Human...isn't something to feel badly about." He told her as makeup-darkened tears streamed her face.
"But it means...I'm an...'It'...a 'thing'...how can that not be bad??" She said, her voice angry, heartbroken, crushed.
"Yes, you were created. Yes you came from a GenEngineer's design tablat. But have you stopped to think why you are so specifically 'You'? Why I had you created?" he asked her, leading her out of the encroaching darkness-of-spirit with a verbal hand.
"Well, I...no...." She started, faltered, then admitted, sounding lost.
"A long, long time ago, I saw someone. Someone not real. A cartoon character. But, I sensed...I saw...something, someone...waiting, yearning. I don't know what it was I sensed, but I followed that 'pull'. I spent decades waiting, watching, technology advanced and finally..." He said, touching her hair, waiting until she looked up into his eyes.
"I found you and could bring you forth, into reality, to share the experience of being alive."
"But, I'm still not...." She started to say, stopping as his finger touched her lips.
"Which does not matter in the slightest. A Human, born of in-vitro fertilization and brought to term in an artificial womb...consider that ." He said, and she did, finding his point, and feeling better about herself and her origins.
"So...what now?" She asked, at a loss.
"Now, we pack and leave for Khaehron. here on Earth, you have no rights. There, as a sapient being, your rights as such are unquestioned and origin means nothing."
She nodded, sniffling and gathering herself as he handed her a wad of tissues.
" ' Pizazz '...why is that name kinda stuck in my head?" She asked getting a surprised look from him, then a chuckle.
"Best answer I have is that the universe has it's little games and jokes on us all. I'll tell you later how it's relevant, right now we have to start packing to leave." he told her, giving her a quick kiss, the affection behind it she had no question or doubt about.
