Searching for an iPhone 17 case with a high clearance front lip. Daughter has limited motor skills and goes through screen protectors excessively.
My daughter is disabled and has limited motor skills. Due to this she drops her phone. A lot. We always use a tempered glass screen protector (TGSP) in addition to a case, but we go through these very fast.
The issue is that I need a very raised (even if comically exaggerated) front lip for face-first drops. In the past this wasn't a major problem, but with today's ultra thin bezels, cases have smaller lips to prevent obstruction of the screen (especially for swiping near the edges). This compromise makes face-first drops much worse, especially when a TGSP is taking up much of the gap.
**What we need - The kind of front lip where if you drop the phone face first on a hard, flat surface, the TGSP should retain its integrity. Basically a mix of vertical clearance and rigidity.**
**What we want - Something other than black, but we can bend here if needed. She has the purple iPhone and most of the cases we've tried so far have been colorful. But again, we'll compromise here if needed.**
##Here's what we've tried so far:
* ESR Classic Hybrid Magnet Case - A cheap placeholder that we were able to get before the phone even shipped, meant to hold us over until the Speck below arrived. The lip is fairly thin and very flexible, so a face-first drop from more than a foot is risky.
* Speck Presidio Lux Grip - We've had good luck with these in the past, but the lip was (understandably) smaller this time. And while they use a harder material, it still flexes enough that face-first drops have typically resulted in a destroyed screen protector.
* Mous Limitless - The corners are raised reasonably well but the rest isn't. It's a great case for most people, but my daughter isn't most people. If an edge hits just right, it's done.
* Otterbox Defender Pro - Ok, either Otterbox quality has gone way south, or this was a counterfeit from Amazon. This one was BAD. The case had a really bad fit and it creaked. $10-$15 mall kiosk cases are leagues better than this garbage and this was nearly $60 after tax.
##Cases we will not consider:
* Casely - I read a similar thread on here and, while I saw no recommendations that might help me, I saw plenty to avoid this brand. And I hadn't even heard of the brand until today.
* Casetify - I think that the community is well aware at this point at just how garbage this company is.
* Flolab - I've tried enough of their products to the point that I inherently doubt the credibility of anyone who recommends them.
