Pufferfish release tetrodotoxin, a substance that can be fatal in large quantities, being up to 1,200 times more lethal than cyanide. However, in very small quantities it can produce a narcotic effect. It is for this reason that some dolphins bite and hit puffer fish, so they can get "high" with the toxins they release when they feel attacked.
