Tawo-Tawo
The name Tawo-Tawo comes from the Visayan word for โscarecrowโ โ literally meaning โman-likeโ or โperson-figureโ.
The festival celebrates the cityโs agricultural roots, especially its rice production. The scarecrow (โtawo-tawoโ) is symbolised as the farmerโs helper in protecting the rice from small birds (called maya) that feed on the ripening grains.
The festival takes place annually in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, Philippines.
