One of the first classes I had to take in university meant to prepare me for the corporate world by teaching me about meeting deadlines, producing complete work, and working well with others. I, feeling myself already proficient in all of these things, considered the class a waste of time which I could be spending on other classes. However, today I found myself thinking about one of the projects I had to do for that class, and I was doting on it a little bit.
For the project, I was tasked with taking a handful of pictures throughout my daily routine and producing a presentation of these images with a little bit to say about what they have taught me regarding hard work, perseverance, and fine workmanship. I went out in my yard one day to take the pictures and what I learned is that there are objects and situations that present themselves to me regularly during my waking hours that, if I just spend a little bit of time thinking more deeply about, can teach me, or remind me of some of the most important lessons one can learn in this life.
The lesson I was remind of earlier today by this train of thought reminded me of the power of finding something enjoyable in the work one HAS to do. I didn't want to do the assignment: it seemed unimportant, and frivolous.. But I found something to appreciate in the work, and now, years later, I find a fond memory in something I originally thought below me.
