162-Year-Old Guinness Discovered in Shipwreck in England
A surprising discovery was recently made in the sea near Dover, England. This was after a Belgian underwater photographer discovered a bottle of Guinness that had been submerged in the wreckage for more than a century and a half.
Stefan Pannis was exploring the wreckage last year when he managed to resurface the bottle, which was still intact and had liquid inside. After cleaning it, he was shocked to discover the words Guinness and the year 1864 on the bottle, indicating that it had been brewed more than 160 years ago.
Pannis has contacted scientists who can examine the bottle and may use its information to try to understand and even recreate the 1864 version of Guinness. This could give experts the opportunity to learn more about how the stout was brewed at the time.
Another interesting fact is that Pannis believes the bottle may have been part of a crate containing 24 bottles. He says there are likely other crates of Guinness hidden near the wreckage.
The photographer now plans to return to the area as soon as sea conditions allow, hoping to salvage another bottle and reveal more about the ancient treasure that has lain at the bottom of the sea for all these years.
