RESISTANCE
The city echoed with the name of one empire – Maalik & Co. while Cole & Sons had long vanished into the thin-air. These men started together but only one survived.
…when the mighty collapse
Cole sat in his spacious but empty office, dusty files stacked where clients once lined up. “I did what worked centuries ago”, Cole whispered to himself. His phones that used to buzz constantly with deals, calls, messages, now stayed silent. He had ignored the websites, dismissed the social media, and refused AI automation. The world moved forward. The world left him in the past.
…at the very beginning
Several years ago, two ambitious friends, Maalik and Cole emerged from the same roof. They both aspired with determination in their hearts, and promised themselves to conquer the global market. They read the same materials, learnt from the same mentors, and launched the same kind of business. From the first day in business, Cole had a more promising future with wider opportunities; he was respected, stronger, admired, and from a richer family. As for Maalik, he walked behind his friend like a shadow. And for many years, the merchants enjoyed a stable, and profitable market.
…when you should adapt
Technological advancement threatened the markets, shaking every trade and commerce. The birth of DIGITIZATION; the era of internet and AI modellings. Cole and Maalik faced the same threat. While Cole found peace and comfort in the traditional way of doing business (the use of paper ledgers), Malik embraced the newer means of trade; operating with cloud systems and delivery apps.
Maalik tore down his old traditions of trading before time did. He said to his staff, “if our customers are online, then we must live nearby”. He faced the reality, experimented the benefits, failed often but gained a lot faster with time. He was soon farther ahead of his competitors. His team of staff adapted, his brand became stronger and his reach grew wider to accommodate more customers.
…however, the situation was very different for Cole.
The Lesson
Know this...
...our shadows shift when the sun moves. The stronger starters meant nothing when time demands change.
We need the right direction before we apply speed. Business is not all about who begins first, but who continues to move, bend, and learn in the right route.
When you go outdated, the wisdom of yesterday becomes a failure today.
Adaptation is survival. Inflexibility equals extinction…
…Maalik proved it while Cole paid for it.
