Why is the Collatz Conjecture important?
It’s obvious a very famous problem, probably due to how simple it is, but is it actually important? It just seems fairly arbitrary.
Considering it’s beyond the reach of modern day mathematics, work on it could give rise to new ideas that could be very useful elsewhere, or there could be links between it and other problems similar to FLT and elliptical curves. We don’t know this tho. Is there anything that it actually would tell us or relate to?
