I made a free site for reading 41,000 public domain classics in your browser
Full disclosure: this is my own project. All the books come from Project Gutenberg, I just built a nicer way to read them online.
https://escapepod.vip/books
What you get:
\- 41,000 classics, readable on your phone or computer with no app or download
\- Every book page shows how the book begins, so you can try the first paragraphs before you commit (Moby Dick: https://escapepod.vip/books/book/2701 )
\- A clean reader with paper, sepia and night themes
\- It remembers your chapter, and with a free account it follows you across devices
\- Browse by genre or author, or search by title
It's free and supported by ads. Without an account you can open 3 different books a day, and reopening one you've started doesn't count. A free account removes the limit.
If you just want the files, Gutenberg itself is still the best place for that. This is for people who'd rather read in a browser.
Feedback very welcome, especially on books that display badly. I fix those as I find them.
