Bill Russell played 13 seasons and won 11 championships. From 1954–1978, no other NBA player won more than two titles without Russell as a teammate; over a 30+ year period through the mid-1980s, no other player won more than three.
I said 1954 because that was the start of the shot clock, but didn’t have enough characters in the title to use.
In a decade before Russell got there, the Celtics had won a total of two playoff series. Those were in 1953 and 1955, and they were coming off of a first round exit when he arrived. They then won 11 rings in 13 years, including eight straight.
They missed the playoffs the two years after he won his 11th ring and retired despite drafting extremely well, and they had a losing record in his career without him on the court.
If you saw this before, my apologies, I fucked up the title. #sport source
