The Utah Jazz were supposed to be...better than 1-7, right?

I think we've all forgotten how competitive the Jazz tended to be to open the past few seasons. Sure, they'd often rev up the tank as the season went on - with last year being especially egregious (and rewarded) - but it was clear they had a lot of talent in need of that franchise guy to provide their supporting pieces a solid fondation.

They got that with the second overall pick. And this was after they added in Jaren Jackson Jr. The Jazz being penned as a playoff team may have been premature but surely they'd be in the race for the play-in rather than a contending to be a relegation roommate with the recent influx in talent even if there were questions about their centre position, right?

Hong Kong 250 R1: Sorana Cirstea def Maria Timofeeva 7-6 1-6 7-5

Incredibly close fought match, Cirstea herself even acknowledged Timofeeva for outplaying her in her post-match interview. Maria staved off 10/14 break points, but was broken at 5-6 after a back-and-forth battle at deuce.

As we all know, Sorana has stated she would retire at the end of 2026. Whether she ends up playing in Romania next January as some have speculated or not, she's leaving everything she has on the court, and you have to respect that!
