New homeowners in a 1960s house — everyone's allergies are…

New homeowners in a 1960s house — everyone's allergies are suffering and we can't figure out why. What are we missing?

We recently moved into a house built in the 1960s and everyone in the family has been struggling with allergies ever since. Before we moved in, we vacuumed the entire house thoroughly and we've been running 3 air purifiers 24/7 — but it doesn't seem to be making much of a dent.

A few things we've noticed that might be relevant:

Previous water damage: There's evidence of old leaks in one of the bathrooms and under the kitchen sink. Both appear to be dry now, but we're not sure if there's hidden mold behind the walls or under the flooring.

Old jetted tub: There's a non-functioning jetted tub in the house. I know the internal tubing on those can harbor mold and bacteria even when the tub looks clean on the surface.

HVAC: We have an HVAC cleaning already scheduled, but haven't had it done yet.

We feel like we're doing the right things but clearly missing something. A 60s-era home probably has a whole list of issues we haven't even thought of yet.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? What else should we be investigating? We're wondering about things like:

Mold testing / air quality testing

Old insulation (vermiculite / fiberglass?)

Duct cleaning vs. full HVAC inspection

What to do with the jetted tub tubing

Whether dry "old leaks" can still cause ongoing allergy issues

Any advice from experienced homeowners or people who've gone through this would be really appreciated. We love the house — we just want to be able to breathe in it!
