Being nice isn’t actually free
It’s often said that "it costs nothing to be nice". I deeply don’t agree with that.
Being nice is absolutely an effort, an effort that people are more or less able to do, depending of their individual history, personality, energy levels… . Anything that mess up your emotional regulation really.
Saying "it costs nothing to be nice" does the exact opposite you want to happen in the world. Because emotional regulation isn’t something you can magically ignore to just act normally and if you don’t you’re evil because you chose to be mean.
