ROU: The Unfinished Samurai by AYUTAROO - Free until Saturday!
My latest kids' picture book is free this week! I'm a Japanese author writing from Sendai, and this one is a bit different from my usual dog ninja series.
Rou is the best swordsman in his dojo. He knows it. Everyone knows it. And he is absolutely insufferable about it.
He gets expelled. Wanders into the mountains. Gets completely destroyed by a tiny old man using nothing but a walking stick.
Cue: 27 pages of watercolor samurai training, frozen waterfalls, chopping wood, and learning that rage ≠ strength.
The old man calls it Meikyo Shisui — "a mind like still water." Rou calls it the worst few months of his life.
Ages 6–12. No reading required to enjoy the art 👌
If you read it with your kids, an honest review would mean the world to me!
