Low budget horror tends to be better than high budget horror.
Compared to most media, which do better with high budgets and more time (looking at OPM S3), horror is one of the few media forms that do better with less budget and time.
The lack of a large budget often means fewer big names, fewer special effects, and more realism than Hollywood typically delivers. Together, these factors add more realism and makes the film grittier and more relatable.
Think, a horror film that looks like something your phone recorded (typically in more low budget films they dont have top of the line cameras and audio and what they have resembles what the average person is likely to have and be familiar with.
They are also mostly staffed by amateur actors and audio visual teams who who will react and record much more closely to how your average person will do so.
Like, its easier to relate to the sheer fear and terror of a home layout that looks eeriely similar to yours, and to people who look more like the average person than a band of super models on an overly tuned scene and house. #conversation
