Is approach culture dead ?

Like actually dead. Does anyone else notice that people will stalk your social media, watch every story, clearly be interested but never actually do anything about it?
Nobody approaches in real life anymore, nobody texts just to get to know you, no "wyd" from a new person. But the passive watching is very much alive.
Is this just a social media thing? Like it gives people a way to feel close without any actual risk so they never take the step? Or is approaching someone just becoming a lost art in general?
