Will a smartwatch negatively affect my anxious 8 year old from learning coping skills?
My daughter has always really struggled with anxiety , especially when it comes to being away from me. She can barely now do sleepovers at her grandma’s etc, but she’ll still get a bit anxious. The first half of kindergarten was a nightmare, because of her separation anxiety and now in grade 2 there are still some bad days.
She recently started attending after school care - they pick her up from school and I pick her up there when I’m done work. Every day she is crying to me that she doesn’t want to go to this daycare, but I’ve narrowed down that the actual issue is that my schedule is inconsistent and she never knows what time I’ll be there. I think THAT is the real root of her anxiety, and I think even as an adult it’s understandable. She also gets extremely worried about something happening to me, so when I’m running behind she is certain I’ve been in a car accident or something.
I came up with the idea of getting her a smartwatch to be able to communicate to her that I’m ok and the time that I will be coming. Will this poorly affect her learning coping mechanisms for her anxiety? #relationships source
