Can this brown thuja be saved, and how do I protect the others?
One thuja has turned completely brown, while the neighboring trees still look healthy.
The soil right next to the trunk is extremely dry (almost like ash), but about 4 inches (10 cm) away it is still moist. The problem started after the last heat wave.
The tree is about **9.2 ft (2.8 m)** tall. The planting bed is at least **12 inches (30 cm)** deep (possibly deeper, but I'm not sure). The soil is well-draining with plenty of stones.
The thujas are planted on a rooftop garden terrace above commercial units.
Location: southern Poland / Europe (USDA Hardiness Zone **7b**, warm-summer humid continental climate, **Dfb**).
I've attached photos. Is it dead, and what might have caused this? What should I check or change to prevent the same problem in the remaining thujas?
