Department restructured our titles and now my title is a level down from where I’d been for 2 years… feeling upset.
I’ve been working for a large company since 2021. I’ve worked in a few different departments. I’ve been in my current department for 2 years now and in 3 different roles since joining due to reorging. My title and pay grade has stayed the same the entire time until this month. I was moved teams and told it would be lateral. Instead, they kept my pay lateral and grade level but my title is now a level lower. I’m trying to interview for internal jobs but now it appears I’m a pay grade lower than I am because of the new title. Recruiters cannot see that I was “grandfathered in” at my grade level bc it doesn’t match the title. They basically expanded the job family from 3 levels into 5 and my department is the only one that I’ve heard did this to their senior employees.
I want to stay at my company but I want to transfer. How doomed am I? Is this going to hurt my chances of getting a new role? I just had to explain this to a recruiter today that reached out for a role I applied to. I am scared I’ll be stuck in this role/department and that they will think I was demoted due to my performance. I received a performance award for 2025 and employee of the quarter for Q1 2025 which are both documented on my resume. I also did a 6 month interim assistant manager position before I was reorged to a different team.
