My brain tells me I'm an inconvenience to everyone I talk to. How do I stop?
I have this thing where I find it almost impossible to start or maintain conversations in public settings with people i am aquanted with or strangers mostly, like at restaurants or in groups. Even when I really want to make a connection, my brain immediately goes to: "They probably don't want to be talking to you," or "They’re just being polite."
It’s gotten to the point where even if my fiancé or friends start a conversation with someone, I’m internally screaming at them to shut up because I’m so convinced we are bothering the other person. I feel like I’m constantly overstaying my welcome, even if the other person seems to be enjoying themselves.
I know logically that many people actually like talking and connecting, but I can't stop treating my presence like an inconvenience. It’s keeping me from making friends and feeling comfortable in my own skin socially and being the outgoing welcoming person im CRAVING to be.
Has anyone else dealt with this specific "fear of imposing"? If so, how did you stop the "shut up now" voice in your head and actually allow yourself to take up space in a conversation? #relationships source
