It only took organized cybercriminals about 20 minutes to steal $6.3 billion worth of cryptocurrency tokens from Binance, one of the largest online exchanges, due to a sophisticated coordinated attack.
These types of attacks will absolutely continue, and become even more dangerous as AI tools are woven into the attack tools for greater capabilities. It is time for financial institutions and investors to once again elevate their cybersecurity practices, policies, controls, and re-evaluate the security of vendors, suppliers, and partners.
The pressure for these types of attacks is constant and rising. We all must strengthen our defenses, increase our resilience, and be prepared to deal with more sophisticated attacks. This type of attack will happen again. The difference between those who survive and those who perish, will be what we do now to prepare.
